Ingredients

  • 1 lb thick
  • cut bacon, sliced into 1/2
  • inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the bacon pieces over medium heat until crispy and brown. Remove from skillet and set aside on a paper towel lined plate. Reserve the bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Add chopped onion to the skillet with bacon grease and sauté for 5 minutes or until softened and translucent.
  3. Stir in apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, honey, bourbon, maple syrup, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 25 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Add the cooked bacon pieces to the skillet and stir well to combine. Continue to cook for another 10 minutes or until the bacon has soaked up some of the sauce and is heated through.
