Ingredients

  • 1. 24 oz extra
  • firm tofu 2. 2 large yellow onions 3. 1/2 cup white miso paste 4. 1/4 cup soy sauce 5. 1/4 cup mirin 6. 2 tbsp rice vinegar 7. 2 tbsp sriracha 8. 4 cloves garlic, minced 9. Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the extra firm tofu into 1 inch thick "steaks."
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, sriracha, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Add the tofu steaks and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Slice the onions into thin strips. In a separate dish, mix together miso paste, mirin, and rice vinegar. Add half of the onions and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium high heat. Grill the marinated tofu steaks for 4 minutes per side or until crispy and slightly charred.
  5. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the remaining onions and cook for about 3 4 minutes, or until caramelized. Add the miso coated onions to the skillet and continue cooking for another 2 minutes.
  6. Serve the grilled tofu steaks with a generous portion of caramelized onions on top.
