- 1. 24 oz extra
- firm tofu 2. 2 large yellow onions 3. 1/2 cup white miso paste 4. 1/4 cup soy sauce 5. 1/4 cup mirin 6. 2 tbsp rice vinegar 7. 2 tbsp sriracha 8. 4 cloves garlic, minced 9. Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Slice the extra firm tofu into 1 inch thick "steaks."
- In a shallow dish, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, rice vinegar, sriracha, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Add the tofu steaks and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Slice the onions into thin strips. In a separate dish, mix together miso paste, mirin, and rice vinegar. Add half of the onions and toss until evenly coated.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium high heat. Grill the marinated tofu steaks for 4 minutes per side or until crispy and slightly charred.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the remaining onions and cook for about 3 4 minutes, or until caramelized. Add the miso coated onions to the skillet and continue cooking for another 2 minutes.
- Serve the grilled tofu steaks with a generous portion of caramelized onions on top.
Chef’s Insight
The combination of miso and sriracha creates a umami-packed flavor that complements the grilled tofu perfectly.
Notes
Adjust the spice level to your preference by adding more or less sriracha.
