  • 10 sheets Phyllo dough 2 cups Chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, and pistachios) 1 cup Unsalted butter, melted 1 tsp Ground cinnamon 1 tsp Vanilla extract 4 cups Water 1 cup Granulated sugar 1/2 cup Honey Cream Topping: 1 cup Heavy cream 4 oz Cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup Powdered sugar 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Unroll phyllo dough and cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  2. In a bowl, mix nuts, cinnamon, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Set aside.
  3. Layer 4 sheets of phyllo dough on the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Brush each sheet with melted butter and sprinkle 1/4 of nut mixture evenly over the layers.
  4. Repeat step 3 until all sheets are used, finishing with buttered top layer and remaining nut mixture.
  5. Cut the layered dough into squares or diamonds, depending on your preference.
  6. Bake for 20 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  7. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and honey. Bring to a boil, then simmer until sugar is dissolved.
  8. Pour warm syrup over the baked layers. Allow to sit for 15 minutes before serving.
  9. For the cream topping, beat heavy cream, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and remaining vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth and fluffy.
  10. Serve each piece of baklava with a dollop of cream topping.
