  • 1. 30 sheets of gluten
  • free phyllo dough 2. 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds) 3. 1 cup granulated sugar 4. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 5. 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 6. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 7. For the syrup: 8. 1 cup water 9. 1 cup granulated sugar 10. 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 11. 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a bowl, combine nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. Layer phyllo sheets in the baking dish, brushing each with melted butter and sprinkling with nut mixture. Repeat until all layers are used.
  4. Using a sharp knife, cut baklava into diamonds or squares.
  5. Bake for 30 35 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. While baking, prepare syrup: In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. As soon as baklava comes out of the oven, pour syrup evenly over it. Let it rest until completely cooled and the syrup is absorbed.
