  • 1. 2 cups raw walnuts, coarsely chopped 2. 4 sheets of vegan phyllo dough, thawed 3. 1/2 cup coconut cream infused with cardamom 4. 1/2 cup agave syrup 5. 2 tsp ground cinnamon 6. 1/2 tsp ground cardamom 7. 1/4 tsp salt 8. Zest of one orange 9. 2 tbsp vegan butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine chopped walnuts, cinnamon, cardamom, salt, and orange zest. Set aside.
  3. Carefully lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle 1/4 of the nut mixture evenly over it. Repeat for the next three sheets of phyllo dough, using butter and nut mixture until all ingredients are used.
  4. Cut the layered stack into squares or diamond shapes and place them in a greased baking dish.
  5. Bake for 20 25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. In a small saucepan, gently heat agave syrup with cardamom infused coconut cream over low heat until slightly thickened.
  7. Remove baklava from the oven and immediately pour the agave coconut syrup evenly over the warm pastry layers.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving, garnished with a sprinkle of chopped pistachios if desired.
