Ingredients
- 1 cup all
- purpose flour 2 cups vegetable oil 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 tablespoon sugar 1 cup water 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 2 cups milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Zest of one orange
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Gradually add water and whisk until smooth.
- Using a piping bag with a star tip, pipe strips of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, then remove and place on paper towels to drain.
- In another saucepan, combine cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract. Heat gently until smooth and creamy.
- Serve churros with a bowl of warm Spanish hot chocolate for dipping and garnish with orange zest.
