Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 6 fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries and sugar over low heat. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves and the fruit releases its juices, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Once cooled, transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor, along with the lemon juice and half of the mint leaves. Blend until smooth.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the remaining solids.
  4. Add the vodka and cold water to the pitcher and stir well to combine.
  5. To serve, fill each glass with ice cubes, add 1 fresh mint leaf and pour in the moonshine until the glass is about 3/4 full. Garnish with a skewered strawberry.

Chef’s Insight

The freshness of the fruit is essential, as it brings a brightness to the drink that truly captures summertime essence.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness to taste by adding more sugar if desired.
