Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Salt and pepper, to taste For the Spicy Mayo Dip: + 1/2 cup mayonnaise + 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce + 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice + 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder + Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Rinse and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into even sized fries, about 1/2 inch thick. In a large bowl, toss the sweet potato fries with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well coated. Spread the seasoned fries in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 25 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning halfway through. While the fries bake, prepare the spicy mayo dip by combining mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Mix well and set aside.

Chef’s Insight

For an extra crispy texture, sprinkle the fries with a little cornstarch before seasoning them.

Notes

The sweet potato fries can be made gluten-free by using gluten-free seasonings and ensuring the mayo dip is also gluten-free.

Cultural or Historical Background

The concept of sweet potato fries can be traced back to the Native American tribes in the United States who cultivated and consumed sweet potatoes for centuries before European settlers arrived.
