Ingredients
1 kg ground beef or lamb (for a gluten
free alternative)
2 slices white bread, soaked in milk (gluten
free)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp curry powder
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
500g ready
made gluten
free pastry dough
3 cups cooked pap (maize meal)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
In a large skillet, cook the onion and garlic until softened. Add the curry powder, turmeric, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper, stirring well.
Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
Squeeze the milk from the soaked bread and add it to the meat mixture. Stir in the eggs and vinegar.
Transfer the meat mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading evenly.
Roll out the gluten free pastry dough and cover the top of the meat mixture. Crimp the edges and cut slits on the top for ventilation.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve the Bobotie Pie alongside cooked pap and caramelized vegetables, garnished with fresh herbs.
