Ingredients
- 1. 1 lb lean ground beef 2. 1 cup chopped onion 3. 2 cups chopped mushrooms 4. 2 cups chopped cauliflower, raw 5. 6 tablespoons butter 6. 1/2 cup heavy cream 7. 1 teaspoon salt 8. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 9. 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 10. 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 11. 1 large egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and mushrooms to the skillet with the cooked beef. Cook for 5 minutes or until softened.
- Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, thyme, and garlic powder. Stir well to combine.
- In a separate pot, cook the cauliflower florets in boiling water for 8 10 minutes or until tender. Drain well.
- Add butter and heavy cream to the cooked cauliflower. Mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Stir the beaten egg into the mashed cauliflower. Mix thoroughly.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a greased 9 inch pie dish, spreading evenly.
- Spread the cauliflower mash over the beef layer, sealing the edges.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and heated through. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Chef’s Insight
For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the meat mixture.
