Ingredients
- 1 cup all
- purpose flour 1 cup rolled oats 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed 3 medium
- sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8 inch square baking pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients, and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to combine until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. Set aside 1 cup of this mixture for the apple layer. In another medium bowl, toss together the sliced apples, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Spread the remaining crumble mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Layer the seasoned apple slices on top of the crumble base. Sprinkle the reserved 1 cup of crumble mixture over the apples to form a crumbly apple layer. Bake for 30 35 minutes, or until the top crumble is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares. For an optional finishing touch, dust the Dutch Apple Crumble Cake with powdered sugar just before serving.
