A Vegan’s Dream: A Cinematic Irish Breakfast Experience
About This Recipe
A full Irish breakfast adapted for a mostly plant-based diet, featuring vegan sausages, vegan bacon, vegan black pudding, hash browns, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, baked beans, and boiled eggs.
The Irish breakfast has long been a staple in Ireland, where it is traditionally served at home and in bed and breakfast establishments. It typically includes black pudding, white pudding, rashers (bacon), sausages, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, and soda bread. Our recipe has been adapted to accommodate a vegan diet while preserving the delicious flavors and textures of the original dish.
Ingredients
- 4 vegan sausages
- 5 oz vegan black pudding
- 2 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, halved
- 8 vegan bacon slices
- 4 eggs, boiled
- 8 hash brown patties
- 14 oz baked beans, canned
- 2 tbsp canola oil, for frying and grilling
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- 1
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add the vegan sausages, cooking them until they are browned on all sides. Set aside.
- 2
In another non-stick pan, cook the mushrooms with a little oil until they are golden brown and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- 3
Grill or broil the tomatoes until they are softened and have developed grill marks. Set aside.
- 4
Fry the vegan bacon in a non-stick pan until it is crispy and golden brown. Set aside.
- 5
Prepare the boiled eggs by bringing water to a boil, adding the eggs, and cooking them for 7 minutes. Once cooked, immediately transfer the eggs to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Peel and set aside.
- 6
Fry the hash browns in a non-stick pan until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. Set aside.
- 7
Reheat the baked beans in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- 8
Assemble the Irish breakfast by arranging each element on individual plates or a large serving platter, ensuring that all items are visually appealing and easy to access for guests.
Chef's Notes
This recipe calls for pre-prepared vegan sausages and black pudding, which may not be widely available in all areas. You can try making your own or substitute them with tofu or other plant-based protein sources if necessary.
Plating Tips
Arrange each component in its own section on a large warm plate, keeping wet items like beans separate from crispy items like hash browns and bacon. Place the halved boiled eggs as a centerpiece.
