About This Recipe

A nutrient-dense paleo smoothie made with mixed berries, spinach, banana, and chia seeds, blended with almond milk and protein powder for a quick, filling breakfast or snack.

Smoothies gained mainstream popularity in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s alongside the health food movement. The paleo adaptation swaps out dairy and refined sugars in favor of nut milks, raw honey, and whole-food protein sources, aligning with the dietary principles inspired by ancestral eating patterns.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/2 cup spinach leaves
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop Paleo-friendly protein powder
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed meal
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Add the mixed berries, spinach leaves, and banana to a high-speed blender.

  2. 2

Pour in the almond milk and add the protein powder.

  3. 3

Add the chia seeds and flaxseed meal.

  4. 4

Blend on high until smooth and creamy, about 30 to 45 seconds.

  5. 5

Taste and stir in honey if additional sweetness is desired.

  6. 6

Pour into two glasses or mason jars and serve immediately.

Chef's Notes

For a thicker texture, use frozen berries or add a few ice cubes before blending. The honey is optional and can be omitted to keep the smoothie sugar-free. Swap spinach for kale if you prefer a slightly earthier flavor.

Plating Tips

Serve in a clear glass or mason jar to show off the vibrant purple color. Top with a few fresh berries, a sprinkle of chia seeds, or a drizzle of honey for a polished presentation.
