Allergens

Wheat (in burger buns), Gluten (in burger buns)

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick
  • cut bacon 1 large white onion, thinly sliced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup ketchup 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 4 burger buns 4 slices American cheese 4 burger patties (preferably freshly ground beef)

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy and browned. Remove from pan and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until softened and slightly caramelized. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook down while preparing the burgers.
  4. Preheat grill or grill pan on medium high heat. Season burger patties with salt and pepper, then cook to your preferred doneness (usually around 3 5 minutes per side for a medium burger). Top each patty with cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  5. Once bacon is cool enough to handle, chop into small pieces and stir them into the bacon jam. Continue to simmer until the jam thickens slightly.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a burger patty on the bottom bun, followed by a generous spoonful of bacon jam, and finally, the top bun. Serve immediately.

Chef’s Insight

For added flavor, marinate the ground beef in Worcestershire sauce before forming the patties.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness of the bacon jam according to your preference by adding more or less brown sugar.
