  • purpose flour 1 cup yellow cornmeal 1 tbsp sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 cup whole milk 1 large egg 2 tbsp vegetable oil 8 wooden sticks 1 qt hot dog buns Vegetable oil, for frying Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce: 1/2 cup mayonnaise 3 tbsp honey 2 tbsp Dijon mustard 1 tbsp white vinegar 1/4 tsp salt 1/8 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add milk, egg, and vegetable oil mix until smooth. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat deep frying oil to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Skewer each hot dog with a wooden stick and dip it into the batter. Coat the hot dog evenly, then carefully lower it into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 2 3 minutes per side. Remove from oil and let cool slightly on a wire rack or paper towels.
  4. For the honey mustard dipping sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, honey, Dijon mustard, white vinegar, salt, and garlic powder. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
