Ingredients
- 1. 1 cup all
- purpose flour 2. 1/4 teaspoon salt 3. 1 tablespoon sugar 4. 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying 5. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 6. Honey Syrup: 7. 1 cup honey 8. 1/2 cup water 9. 1 cinnamon stick 10. 1 tablespoon lemon juice 11. 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional) 12. Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Gradually add water and whisk until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract. Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.
- In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Using a spoon, drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the honey syrup by combining honey, water, cinnamon stick, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, discard the cinnamon stick, and let cool slightly.
- Drizzle the warm honey syrup over the fried Loukoumades and garnish with chopped walnuts and powdered sugar if desired. Serve immediately.
