  • 1 cup Brandy or Cognac

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, water, and sugar. Heat gently over low heat until the sugar has dissolved completely.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange zest to the wine mixture. Increase heat to medium low and warm the mixture for 10 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the Glühwein mixture steep for an additional 20 minutes.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher, discarding the solids. Stir in the vanilla extract and Brandy or Cognac.
