Ingredients

  • 1. 2 lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined 2. 3/4 cup unsalted butter 3. 1/2 cup Louisiana hot sauce 4. 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 5. 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice 6. 1 tsp garlic powder 7. 1 tsp onion powder 8. 1 tsp smoked paprika 9. Salt and pepper, to taste 10. Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine shrimp with butter, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your grill to medium high heat. Thread shrimp onto skewers, leaving some space between each piece. Discard the excess marinade.
  3. Grill skewers for about 4 minutes per side or until the shrimp turns pink and opaque. Serve immediately with crusty bread for dipping.

Chef’s Insight

The key to tender, juicy shrimp is not overcooking them. Keep a close eye on the grill and remove the skewers as soon as they turn pink and opaque.

Notes

For a spicier version, add more hot sauce to the marinade.

Cultural or Historical Background

BBQ Shrimp Skewers are inspired by the iconic New Orleans dish, Barbecued Shrimp, which is typically served with crusty bread for soaking up the rich sauce.
