Ingredients

  • 1 cup almonds, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 4 cups coconut oil
  • 6 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1 box (14 oz) filo pastry sheets

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Lightly oil a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix almonds and walnuts with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  3. Lay one filo sheet on the bottom of the prepared dish and brush with coconut oil. Repeat this for 8 layers.
  4. Sprinkle half of the nut mixture evenly over the layers. Top with another 5 6 layers of oiled filo sheets, brushing each with coconut oil.
  5. Sprinkle remaining nuts evenly over the top layer.
  6. Cut into diamond or square shapes and bake for 25 30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately pour honey over the hot pastry. Let it soak for about 1 hour, then serve.
