This is a mouthwatering copycat version of a famous restaurant's BBQ smoked hot dogs with gooey cheese and crunchy onion rings, served with creamy coleslaw.
4 beef or pork sausages 8 hot dog buns 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or American) 1 large onion, thinly sliced 2 cups all
purpose flour 1 cup buttermilk 1 tbsp oil for frying 1 bottle smoky BBQ sauce 1 cup coleslaw mix 1/4 cup mayonnaise
Instructions
Preheat your grill or smoker to medium high heat. Grill the sausages until cooked through, 8 10 minutes per side.
In a large bowl, toss the onion slices with flour and buttermilk until evenly coated. Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the onion rings until golden brown, about 3 4 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
Warm the BBQ sauce in a small saucepan.
To assemble the dogs, split the buns and toast them lightly on the grill. Place the cooked sausages inside and top with cheese, BBQ sauce, onion rings, and coleslaw.
Chef’s Insight
To really capture the sizzle, aroma, and crowd energy, cook these on a charcoal grill or at a neighborhood cookout with friends.
