Ingredients
- 1. 2 cups chocolate cake, cut into cubes 2. 3 cups fresh cherries, pitted 3. 1/2 cup Amaretto liqueur 4. 1 cup granulated sugar 5. 1/4 cup water 6. 8 oz mascarpone cheese 7. 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream 8. 1 tsp vanilla extract 9. 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently toss the chocolate cake cubes with 2 tablespoons of Amaretto liqueur. Set aside to soften slightly.
- In a separate saucepan, combine cherries, granulated sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the cherries release their juices, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining Amaretto liqueur. Allow to cool completely.
- In another large bowl, beat together mascarpone cheese, heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- To assemble, begin with a layer of soaked chocolate cake cubes, followed by a generous spoonful of Amaretto infused cherry compote, and a dollop of the mascarpone whipped cream. Repeat these layers twice more, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Refrigerate the trifle for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
Chefβs Insight
Allow the Amaretto-infused cherries to cool completely before assembling the trifle, or the cake may become too saturated and lose its structure.
