2 cups fresh figs, stemmed and halved 1/4 cup honey 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground ginger 1/8 tsp ground cloves 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg 1 star anise 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 3 cups apple juice, unsweetened Orange wheel, for garnish
Instructions
a. In a saucepan, combine the figs, honey, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, star anise, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. b. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for 15 20 minutes until the figs have softened and released their juices. c. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Use an immersion blender or food processor to blend the mixture until smooth. d. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into another saucepan, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. e. Add the apple juice to the strained liquid and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 5 7 minutes until heated through. f. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Serve warm, garnished with an orange wheel.
