Allergens

Soy, Wheat (from Worcestershire sauce)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef flank steak, thinly sliced 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 cup fresh pineapple, diced 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon smoked paprika 1 teaspoon black pepper, ground 16 wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, hoisin sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Mix until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight for best results.
  3. Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before using.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and thread onto soaked skewers, alternating with diced pineapple. Discard any remaining marinade.
  5. Grill skewers for 4 6 minutes per side or until desired doneness is reached, basting occasionally with reserved marinade.
  6. Serve immediately on a bed of rice or alongside your favorite slaw.

Chef’s Insight

Marinating the beef in advance allows the flavors to penetrate further, resulting in a more tender and flavorful dish.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the pineapple and marinade proportions to your preference.
